Adding Reference files as layers with ability to view them in full resolution

for example I’m making a 128x96 portrait and I want to view its 12megapixel photo in back of it as a locked transparent file without scale it.
my current workaround is using an app called pureref but it is not following the canvas if I zoom or drag.

You can do this using a reference layer. You can then also move and rescale the image using the move tool (selections do not work).
