Hello Aseprite Community!
I’m excited to share AseNav, a new utility designed to enhance the workflow for pixel artists using Aseprite. I have been working on this project about 1 month. It is totally free!
What is AseNav?
AseNav is a standalone, scalable preview and recording tool that mirrors your active Aseprite canvas in real-time. It provides an independent, high-resolution preview, allowing you to see your pixel art sharply at any scale (from small icons to 4K monitors) right next to your main workspace or on a secondary screen.
Key Features:
-
Real-Time External Preview: See every brush stroke and change you make in Aseprite instantly in a separate window.
-
Frame-Perfect Recording: Capture each frame (or single drawing) precisely as a frame-perfect video. This is ideal for time-lapses, animation reviews, or just documenting your painting process.
-
High-Quality Video Export: Export as MP4 in resolutions up to 4k (720p, 1080p, 2K, 4K) without compromising pixel art quality.
-
Pan & Zoom Controls: Freely zoom and pan within the preview window to inspect details.
-
Customizable Background: Toggle between a solid color or the classic checkerboard pattern to control transparency viewing.
Important Note:
AseNav integrates with Aseprite using its built-in Lua scripting feature. The setup involves placing a small Lua script in the designated folder to handle the automatic canvas/frame capture.
AseNav relies on FFmpeg to generate the video files. The necessary FFmpeg files are included within the AseNav.exe package. Please do not delete these accompanying files, as doing so will disable the video saving functionality.
