Shift+Drag / Maintain Aspect Ratio not working in Aseprite

I noticed earlier today that when trying to resize something using the Transform tool that holding Shift to maintain aspect ratio was not working. I also tried this with the shape tool and it still failed to work. I have done the following:

  • booted up Aseprite on my older laptop and installed the latest version and it works perfectly fine there
  • restarted my laptop multiple times, Maintain Aspect Ratio still doesnt work on my current laptop
  • reinstalled Aseprite multiple times, Maintain Aspect Ratio still doesnt work on my current laptop
  • cleared my config for Aseprite multiple times and reset keybinds, Maintain Aspect Ratio still doesnt work on my current laptop
  • went back to previous versions of Aseprite multiple times, Maintain Aspect Ratio still doesnt work on my current laptop. also for context, I own Aseprite on Steam. not sure if this might be an issue but its worth noting.
  • checked to see if this is a hardware issue - it is not because I booted up Paint 3D to test Shift+Drag on 2d objects and it works perfectly fine there
  • I have tried to rebind this to keys other than Shift for Maintain Aspect Ratio - even after rebinding, it STILL does not work.
  • The last time I know it was working was this past Saturday and Sunday.

I legitimately have no idea what on earth is wrong with my version of Aseprite. I don’t think it’s a hardware issue with my laptop. If anyone can help, then please help because this really sucks.

Hi @ricEECDGaming, could you please share with us your user.aseprite-keys file, it’s located in your preferences folder.

Thank you for the quick response! Here is my user.aseprite-keys file: https://drive.google.com/file/d/1uexB5HwV9ho60GgHEHoW-rvTl_Tu2BNU/view?usp=sharing

I wasn’t able to reproduce this issue on Aseprite v1.3.17.2 running on Linux, but I’m not sure if it’s something new on Windows (or in a new/latest Windows update).

I remember a specific shortcut that we weren’t able to use on Windows because Edge capturing it globally, but this is not the case. The most strange thing is that you cannot make it work in old versions, so it looks like something else.

I can confirm that I am on Windows, and specifically Windows 11 Pro with version 25H2, on an Alienware m16 R1 laptop with 13th Gen Intel i7-13700HX specs. I have also tried disabling Edge background processes and other Edge-related things, but these still do not fix the issue. The only other thing I can think of that would affect this is a Windows Update, which I did get one yesterday, which was: Security Intelligence Update for Microsoft Defender Antivirus - KB2267602 (Version 1.449.357.0) - Current Channel (Broad). Is there anything else that you think could be a cause for this?
