So for some reason, when I do shift it adds to the selection, but only with a perfect square. It didnt do this back then, so it let me add to the selection normally. Now it just makes it a perfect square. It’s annoying since I have to manually click the add to selection instead of doing shift, since it doesnt let me do a free-form rectangle. Any help?

use alt, shift and ctrl only to switch the selection mode - don’t hold them. press shift, start drawing selection rectangle, release shift. you can change action modifiers in keyboard shortcuts too.

Yeah just do what Olga said. Just release the shift button after you start the drag. It’s probably going to be reverted though.
