I just ran into a use case where I have a folder dedicated to a single character and all their various created images and sprites, but I was having a hard time perusing quickly to find just the .ase files amongst all the exported .pngs and .gifs. It would be nice to be able to sort the file browser by file type, date modified, etc., instead of just alphabetically. That would simplify the process a lot for me.
In Edit > Preferences > Experimental, you can enable “Use native file dialog”, which will give you all the abilities that your OS’s built-in file dialog does, including sorting.
