Confusion with the slice tool

Hi. I’ve been trying to use the slice tool to export my sprite sheet into multiple images, one for each animation. I’ve gotten so far in making the slices for each image but I’ve run into a couple of issues:

  1. Saving the image and reopening Aseprite means losing the slices (not good when you want to make changes after)

  2. I can’t seem to export the slices. It’s not found anywhere in the UI. We’re supposed to go through CLI just to export some slices (Aseprite - Docs - Slices) but I can’t seem to get that to work either.

If I had to guess it’s because I only have png’s to work with, not this “ase” file that the CLI tool seems to mention in its example. How would I convert my png into an ase file to use the slice functionality?
