I am a game developer making an open world pixel art game. Our artists using Aseprite as the primary tool for creating pixel art. To improve workflow we developed a custom export script that exports directly to our Unity project. At the core we just make lots of app.command.ExportSpriteSheet calls (the file has A LOT of layers and A LOT of tags).
Last time we used the tool about 2 weeks ago everything worked as intended. Now trying to use the script we encounter a HUGE delay after finishing the exports and before aseprite is responsive again. Funnily the textures are all already exported and done (we see the results in Unity) but Aseprite just doesn’t respond for approx. 3 times the time it needed to export the last texture (e.g. 7 secs for export but takes 21 secs before responive again).
Is this a bug? Or some changes to the API after n update that is causing this?
We are on the current default/stable version on Steam.
I just downloaded 1.3.17.2 portable version and tried the script again. No delay at all after the export. So I suspect something is off with the current version
Hi @KaiBo, just in case would you mind to share with us your script at support@aseprite.org? Also having some idea of the kind of file (in case you cannot share the .aseprite) might help us (width x height, number of frames, number of layers, number of tags).
Thanks for the answer, I will send an email! Here are some information already anyway:
The file has 32 layer folders, 217 layers, 1611 frames and has a size of 120x120 px (yeah it’s big )
I tried to reduce layers (down to 1) - it improved export time in general but there was still a delay after finishing the export (3 secs for export, 10 secs before app was ready again; in comparison: it was 7 secs for export and 21 secs before app ready before)
Reducing frames in addition has the same effect: improves export time, but there is always a delay afterwards
I tried to comment out parts of the script (I thought maybe opening a window/dialog might cause the lag) - but only the sheer amount of app.command.ExportSpriteSheet calls seems to cause it
Also interesting: I tested on several computers; on one of them the export has no delay, on the other two there is the delay with the same aseprite file and the same scripts on Steam with the latest version
No delay on any of them on the above mentioned portable version
