I just opened Aseprite and I can’t see my color pallet on the left
Put the mouse pointer on the left edge, it should turn into one of those <-> icons, then drag it out again. It’s probably just hidden in the frame.
Thank you that fixed it
Why is toggling the color palette so unintuitive?
I love Aseprite, but I really don’t understand the inconsistency in its design. If there’s a View menu in the menu bar, why not put “Show Color Palette” or “Hide Color Palette” options there? That’s the first place anyone would look for viewing-related toggles.
Having this functionality tied to a shortcut key (F4) or buried elsewhere feels unintuitive and wastes time for users who are simply trying to navigate the software efficiently. The View menu exists for a reason—to manage what’s visible in the interface—so why not use it?
I’m not saying Aseprite isn’t great—it’s fantastic—but consistent, intuitive design makes a huge difference. By aligning with conventions from other software, these small quality-of-life changes can save users a lot of frustration. Let’s aim for simplicity and usability—hidden options and inconsistent placements only make the learning curve steeper.
