I'm currently trying to make my own minecraft texture pack. Can't open .png file to check it out?

As the title says, I am trying to work on my own texture pack. I went to open the .png file for the stone cutter and got an error that says aseprite can’t load the file. Has anyone else had the issue? Or am I just being kinda dumb with this new stuff (the most i’ve used for pixel art beforehand was microsoft paint, procreate and pixaki).

Although there might be a way to get the file open, depending on what resource pack format you’re using, what I’d personally do is also make a copy of the texture(s) you’re trying to edit. I think what you’re running into is that Minecraft’s original textures are set to read-only, as to prevent anything malicious from wrecking the vanilla textures.

If not, it’s still nice to be safe in the knowledge that whatever you do to the textures won’t end up affecting the base game.

as kinker said, those files are set to read only, you can change it by selecting them, right clicking and going into properties, but do create a copy of the textures, dont try to do it straight on the base texture pack, or you may mess up and have to reinstall the version.
