Is it possible for Aseprite to show the Aseprite icon in the corner of the thumbnail?

  • I have Aseprite 1.3.6, Steam release, on Windows 10
  • I didn’t go through the Windows Installer so didn’t get to have any opinion on the checkbox for thumbnails in there
  • I have separately installed the thumbnailer package for Windows
  • I have “Display file icons in thumbnails” enabled in Folder Options → View

In spite of this, I’m seeing corner icons for other apps like CSP, but I’m not seeing any for Aseprite. It’s just showing the thumbnails on their own, which is making it tough to tell the difference between Aseprite files and PNGs and stuff.

Is there perhaps something I can do to tell the thumbnailer to add Aseprite’s icon in the corner?

i’m gonna bump this. anyone have any ideas? it’s still annoying me >:(

if you have an aseprite file and a sea of png files for animated stuff, it’s REALLY hard to pick out the aseprite file. i like having thumbnails but not at the cost of being unable to find the aseprite file.

Hi @brokenbeta, you can try to enable the app icon manually editing the registry (regedit.exe), just deleting the TypeOverlay value from HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\AsepriteFile:

Then you have to re-login or restart your PC (or killing/restarting explorer.exe process).

Internal details for developers: There are some docs about this entry in the Thumbnail Overlays section here.
