Layer Effects + Some Tricks

How this Works and what this is:
1. You select an Layer with right click and see “Add Effects”
2. Now an Window opens with some Effects that can be activated or even duplicated (when someone wants to add 3 different shadows as an example)
3. Is one Active you can Change some Parameters in it.

First an List of Effects that would be nice to have and what Parameters the should have:

A) Drop Shadow (Always outside from the edge)
Parameter:

  • Blend Mode (Multiply,Lighten,Harden,Color and so on)
  • Color
  • Angle (what direction you want it to Drop)
  • Opacity (how transparent it is)
  • Distance (how far away is the shadow)
  • Size (how big is the Shadow)
  • Noice ( this scatters the edge of the shadow a little)
  • Dithering (what kind of Dithering and how much)
  • Form (points, blocks, waves and so on you can make an own black and white texture or use some default patterns)

B) Inner Shadow (always inside of the edge)
Parameter:

  • Same as in Drop Shadow

C) Outer Border (always outside of the edge)
Parameter:

  • Blend Mode (Multiply,Lighten,Harden,Color and so on)
  • Color
  • Light Angle ( can be used for bright edge on the sun side and dark edge on the shadow side )
  • Opacity (how transparent it is)
  • Distance (how far away the border is from the edge [in pixels] )
  • Size (how thick the Border is)
  • Noice ( this scatters the edge of the border)
  • Dithering (what kind of Dithering and how much)
  • Form (points, blocks, waves and so on you can make an own black and white texture or use some default patterns)

D) Inner Border
Parameter:

  • Same as in Outer Border

E) Gradient Overlay
Parameter:

  • Blend Mode (Multiply,Lighten,Harden,Color and so on)
  • Color or Palette (you can save your own Palette for this)
  • Angle (with reverse option)
  • Opacity (how transparent it is)
  • Dithering (what kind of Dithering and how much)
  • Style (linear, Radial and so on)
  • Scale (how hard the Color transition is or how much Colors are used)

F) Pattern Overlay
Parameter:

  • Blend Mode (Multiply,Lighten,Harden,Color and so on)
  • Opacity (how transparent it is)
  • What Pattern (you can select the default ones or select your own Pattern Image)

Features:
1). Every Effect can be Doubled by pressing an [+] Symbol on the left next to the name of the Effect. This means you can add as much of the same Effect as you want.
Example: More than one Pattern to make an new Mixed Pattern Effect or 4 Different Shadows to simulate 4 different Light sources on the Sprite.Or add more than 6 Outer Borders to simulate an Effect that get stronger for how far it is from the Sprite.

2.) When you really like an Layer Effect you can Export the Layer Effect and Import him every Time you want it on an other Sprite

thats good but its a lot

Yes but in the end the dev can add it piece by piece, when he/she wants.

Have a look at Pixelmash by Nevercenter for an example. These features are implemented in that software and they work quite well, there. I’d prefer to stay in Aseprite, though. Having these features in Aseprite would be AMAZING.
