The brush preview size does not increase, When I increase the brush size before painting, the brush still just remains a square, regardless of the brush or its size. Although the brush size is 6 and it is also circular, only a 1-pixel square is displayed on the screen

You probably have brush size bound to pressure or velocity in your dynamics, check your settings:

Uncheck the box next to Size to unbind it, then the size you have set in the toolbar will be the one used.
