Okay, so I’ve recently purchased Aseprite and it’s a Godsend, but I have a little peeve.
When using the eyedropper, selecting a color that exists in the palette automatically selects that color. But in some cases, I want the currently selected palette color to become the color I selected, but it instead selects the matching color. This makes it hard to efficiently add new shades to colors sometimes. Is there a workaround, or am I doing something wrong?
you can use Color range
pick the color palette then go to select
or use “W” magic wand make Tolerance set to 0
let me know if this is what you want.
I don’t think so. Here’s what I’m running into with more detail.
- I select a color on the palette.
- I eyedrop a different color in the drawing area, one also present on the palette.
- When doing so, instead of setting the palette color I selected to that color, it selects the other color for me.
This is a great feature, but I wish it was toggleable to easily set colors.

to add colour to the palette you need to hit red exclamation mark button next to the colour.
for editing colours in palette you can also click on lock icon above palette swatches and ‘unlock’ it, so you can edit the selected colour swatch. although even in unlocked mode the eyedropper won’t change the existing colour swatch automatically. if the colour is not in the palette yet, you need to click on red button.
