Why can't i rotate an image?

I don’t know if it matters but i bought the program on steam.

I have an image of a fireball

I drag a selection box around the fireball

Instructions say hold alt and click the little cubes in the corner and my cursor will become a rotate cursor.

My cursor becomes an eye dropper tool

Another instruction says hold left click on the cubes.

I hold left click on the cubes nothing happens

This doesn’t seem that complicated I’ve changed nothing in the program what so ever. Did the hotkey change? Am i cursed? Is my mouse not registering as holding left click do you think? I’m open to ideas.

select the thing you want to rotate, then move your cursor to the corner of the selection box. move it diagonally from that corner till it shows a curves double-arrow icon. then you should be able to rotate the image.

oh and if you want to rotate it cleanly, select the image then go to edit on the top left, and in the dropdown there should be a flip image horizontally/vertically and one to rotate it 90 degrees clockwise or counterclockwise.
