Currently there has been no development for mobile devices, though it is planned.

This was the last news written in a thread about iOS/Android, it dates back to 2020 however:

Take the following with consideration however:

Aseprite v1.3 seems to have launched November 2023 (~7ish months ago).
Announcement of v1.3 (tilemap editor):

If you can find more recent info, or have insider info let us know for future references/links!

Hi everyone! there is no progress, only some ideas. The good news is that we’re trying to make a little bigger the team so we can divide some tasks. I’d like to start focusing more in the UX / UI area to design the touch-only / stylus-only version and delegate the development.

Can’t wait. I’d love to not have to sit at my pc to use aseprite for work haha.

Yeah id love to be able sit sit comfortably and make tilesets for games and even while out and about. I pray that this becomes a high priority for future development and we can get this soon!

Would definitely love to see this turn into an iOS app. I know it’s been requested a bazillion times over the last 3 years, but the alternatives are really limited when compared to Aseprite.

Pixaki is decent, but for $27 I’d really rather give that money to Aseprite team for an iOS app. Working on a tablet with a pen is just much easier and more comfortable than sitting at my computer desk with a mouse. So I’m currently stuck handing over almost $30 for Pixaki and paying for every release.

any update on this? I know it takes time and am willing to wait, but would like to know if it is still in development

Is there ongoing development for this in iOS? I would be happy to help develop this if you need more people

Not at the moment. Probably in the future, not yet.

ı would love to see aseprite in ios so ı can transfer my workflow there aswell. especially to ipad. is there any news or plans so we can see the timeline?

I’ve made a fully working iOS native version for iPad. Maybe the Aseprite team can contact me to discuss the workflow

@Simerca I saw that you have used Claude, we’re not going to merge code co-authored by Claude.

What about this, this looks like there was some work on it, in 2018. It’s been 6 years since that post up to the post you sent, been 8 years since that post now. Is there any work done? or is it just thoughts inside heads?

Hi @Extra_Sugar, I’m working on a iOS port at the moment. But it so much work that it will take some time. Basically several UI elements must be re-designed because the current UI is meant to be used with a mouse/stylus and left/right-click available.

Edit: Meaning this in no rudeness/harshness, but wouldn’t that be working on ui for 6 years?

There have been multiple people working on an iOs port since my post 8 years ago, but no one managed to make a fully working version or they stopped as soon as they got it working just for themselves.

Since that post I finished College, started a second degree and got engaged, yet progress on my request did not move an inch.

The discussion on that thread got a bit heated in the end because I was very passionate of using Aseprite and the lack of updates made me very frustrated.

My guess, there is a higher focus on new features rather that a port as that brings in new sales. Also, iOS is a completely different platform from PC which means a good chunk of the code would have to be rewritten to get it working.

Therefore, everything is a cost and reward process and the reward of working on a port is outweighed by it’s cost.

If you want a decent pixelart program for the iPad/iOS you can now find quite a few in the appstore.

Also, someone forked the project before their license changed. If you look up LibreSprite, you’ll find it, and they have a Web port which means you can just open it in your browser on an iOS device or iPad or any other device you own and run it. The difference to the main project is negligible.

Hope this helps

I have personally prioritize the desktop version. There is no progress so far in a mobile/touch only version, and it will be done when it’s humanly possible done by us.
