Hold shift locks to square etc

I know that holding shift before selection makes it a square but now i can only use the add selection using only squares. I don’t know how to turn it off, please help!

(Solved) Square/rectangular selection issue

use alt, shift and ctrl only to switch the selection mode - don’t hold them. press shift, start drawing selection rectangle, release shift. you can change action modifiers in keyboard shortcuts too.
